FAQ

All applications must go through the AAMC Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). We do not consider any other applications. Please submit all applications through ERAS unless you are applying for a non-standard position such as a PGY2 or 3 position. Those will be considered via email, only if an opportunity arises.
No. Most emails and calls for information do not affect interview decisions. Applications are reviewed comprehensively through ERAS, and interview invitations are extended based on the strength of the overall application. For questions not addressed on our website, please contact us at: Dawn.Paynter@trinity-health.org or Ashleigh.Blackburn@trinity-health.org
We believe that excellence in candidates for residency training comes from more than just test scores. As part of our application review, we give thoughtful consideration to:
- Academic metrics (e.g. board exam scores, class performance)
- Clinical experiences, research, leadership, teaching, service, and life experiences
- Fit with the mission, goals, and values of our program
- In making interview decisions, we strive for a holistic assessment, balancing the strengths and weaknesses of each candidate. We evaluate individual trajectories, context (such as differences in resources or opportunities), and the potential contributions a candidate brings beyond metrics
In case of Multiple failures on standardized exams, an explanation in the personal statement is always helpful.
We believe that each candidate’s path to residency is different. We do not have a cut-off for graduation year. A holistic review is done of the time gap between medical school and application for residency training. All applicants are encouraged to apply who wish to be considered.
Trinity Health Livonia Hospital Internal Medicine program enjoys a wide diversity of residents from many countries, schools, and ages. Actual percentages are not tracked as we have residents from American schools, Caribbean schools, and many other schools from around the world.
U.S. experience is very desirable in our search for the ideal resident. U.S. clinical experience affords applicants several advantages, which are very important as soon as they begin seeing patients. The higher quality the U.S. experience, the better our new interns are able to navigate the patient interview and exam as well as focus on the medical knowledge and patient care that needs to be learned.
Trinity Health Livonia will sponsor J1 Visas only.
While we do not have fellowship at Livonia site, our residents benefit from the resources of the larger Trinity Health system. Nearby sister institutions within Trinity Health offer fellowships in Gastroenterology, Hematology/Oncology, Infectious Disease, Cardiology, Palliative Care, and Addiction Medicine. Our residents work with the faculty one on one during their electives and have the option of requesting for an away rotation at one of our sister hospitals.. These experiences allow our trainees to work closely with multiple subspecialty faculty, gain exposure to fellows in training, and build strong professional relationships. This comprehensive network provides a valuable pathway for residents interested in pursuing subspecialty careers
We also provide the opportunity for an away rotation for our residents who are interested and eligible as part of their Individualized Educational Experience.
